Welcome to the first 2018 edition of Health Manager.

Two projects tied for the 2017 HMI Leaders Award which were presented by HMI President, Lucy Nugent at a ceremony in the Prof. David Boucher Hayes room at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin before Christmas.

The WALKways Tallaght Hospital Project is a one year programme which helps 11 job seekers with intellectual disabilities gain relevant and meaningful job experience, be accredited for their practical learning and ultimately move on to access paid employment in the open labour market. A short film project, “Personal Journeys of stigma and recovery," made by the Blackrock Hall Men’s Group in Cork and the HSE South Lee Mental Health Services, was the joint winner of the 2017 HMI Leaders Award. Maureen Browne reports.

Nearly 2,600 extra acute hospital beds, a 48% increase in the primary care workforce, 13,000 extra residential care beds for older persons and a 120% increase in homecare will be required by 2031 if key reforms and productivity measures are implemented, according to the Health Service Capacity Review. A new programme for advanced nursing practice (ANP), aims to result in the delivery of 700 ANP posts by 2021.

Rosarii Mannion, HSE National Director of HR was awarded the Business/ Executive Coach of the year by the ICF.

Damien McCallion, HSE National Director Emergency Management and National Ambulance Service, has been elected to the role of Director General for the CAWT Partnership. Damien has served as a CAWT Board Member for over three years.

Trevor O’Callaghan has been appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group.

Leadership and investment were the keys to success if the Irish health services were to move from structural change to implementing integrated care, Mr. Joe Ryan, Interim Head of the Programme for Health Service Improvement (PHSI) in the HSE told a meeting of HMI South in the Erinville Hospital, Cork.
