Approximately 9,800 children who receive a Domiciliary Care Allowance, and who did not previously qualify for a medical card, are expected to receive one under new legislation.
The Health (Amendment) Act 2017, passed in March, provided for the granting of a medical card to all children in respect of whom a Domiciliary Care Allowance is made.
It is hoped that all the new medical cards can be certified for use from June 1, next.
