Irish HomeCare is the first national health and social care organisation in Ireland to sign the Compassionate Leadership Pledge and will partner with the Global Compassion Coalition which represent a global network of professionals who strive for a more compassionate world.

“As a Carer and a Nurse, compassion is something I deeply value. Throughout my career I have experienced the power of compassion for both those in receipt of care and those providing care,” said Ms McNally.

“At Irish HomeCare, we believe in creating environments where each person feels safe, understood, valued and empowered. A place where our employees can flourish, and compassionate care is prioritised. It is a real privilege for me to lead the wonderful team in Irish HomeCare on this journey, I hope that through our work and interactions, many will follow in our footsteps as we strive for a more compassionate Ireland”.

To mark this commitment, Irish HomeCare hosted a Compassionate Leadership Workshop for its management team, on which was facilitated by renowned experts in the field, Professor Michael West CBE, Senior Visiting Fellow, The Kinds Fund, London and Ms Caroline O’Regan, Executive Specialist, Graduate School of HealthCare Management, RCSI

During this workshop, CEO, Teresa McNally took the opportunity to officially sign the Compassionate Leadership Pledge and was delighted to also be joined online by Ms Helen Thomas, HEIW Wales.

Helen along with Michael and Caroline are members of the Global Compassion Coalition Working Group.

It is a proud moment for Ireland, as Irish HomeCare declare its commitment to lead with compassion, care with compassion and promote a culture of compassion nationally. It was a real privilege for me to join Irish HomeCare on the day their CEO Teresa McNally signed the Compassionate Leadership Pledge and I am honoured to support them on their compassionate journey” said Professor Michael West CBE.

I feel very privileged to be part for this great day with Teresa McNally, Damien Maguire, Irish HomeCare Executive and Senior Management Team and for Ireland as they pledge to work collectively in developing and sustaining compassionate practices and cultures across the organisation” said Caroline O’Regan RCSI.

In signing the pledge, Irish HomeCare commit to pursuing, promoting, developing and embedding the principles of compassionate leadership within Irish HomeCare and the wider health and social care system. A transformative development in Ireland which aligns to the World Health Organisation (WHO) strategy in their recent publication, Compassion and Primary Health Care. In this report the WHO highlights the relationship between compassion and diverse health care and provide actionable insights to harness compassion to enhance population health globally.
