Capital funding for the construction and equipping of healthcare facilities in 2025 is a record €1.33 billion.
Investment in 2025 will enable the progression of Government priority projects, including the completion of the New Children’s Hospital, progress the construction of the National Maternity Hospital, continue delivery of additional bed capacity under the Acute Hospital Inpatient Bed Capacity Expansion Plan 2024-2031, and construction of new Surgical Hubs and Elective Care Centres.
It also facilitates the development of infrastructure to support mental health service delivery, the delivery of more Primary Care Centres, HIQA Community Nursing Unit programme and community-based infrastructure to help ensure people can access appropriate care closer to home.
Highlights include:
- New Children’s Hospital and the new National Maternity Hospital.
- Acute hospital projects including additional bed capacity, critical care capacity and maternity services.
- Development of surgical hubs at Cork (CUH), Galway (Merlin Park), Waterford, Limerick and Swords, following the opening of the new hub in Mount Carmel in Dublin.
- Development of Elective Care Centres in Dublin, Cork and Galway.
- Primary Care Programme includes the building and equipping of new centres across the country.
- Accommodation for Enhanced Community Care.
- Community Nursing Units including refurbishment to HIQA standards throughout the country.
- Mental health facilities including CAMHS units, acute mental health units across the country.
- Investment in infrastructure and facilities at designated cancer centres to optimise cancer prevention, treatment, education and research.
- Investment in Trauma and Rehabilitation projects.
- Investment in equipment replacement and infrastructural risk projects.
- Replacement ambulance programme and ambulance bases renovation.
- Investment in Climate Action and Sustainability projects.
