The Mater Private Hospital in Dublin has become the first private hospital in the country to perform a transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement using the EVOQUE system – a groundbreaking procedure for patients with severe tricuspid regurgitation.
A hospital spokesperson said this cutting-edge technology, developed by Edwards Lifesciences, enables valve replacement without open-heart surgery, providing a life-changing solution for patients who previously had no approved transcatheter treatment options.
“Clinical trials have shown significant improvements in symptoms and quality of life, enabling patients to breathe more easily and regain independence.
“The procedure was successfully performed in our Dublin hospital by our cardiologists, Prof. Ivan Casserly, Prof. Mark Spence and Dr. Roger Byrne, together with our team (CSSD department, anaesthetic team, nursing team, cath lab staff, cardiac physiologists, radiographers, and many others) who supported every step of the way.
“With only 1,000 cases worldwide performed to date, this marks a major milestone in advancing cardiac care, and places Mater Private Network at the forefront of cardiac innovation in Ireland. We are proud to bring this next-generation treatment to Irish patients, reinforcing our commitment to world-class, patient-focused innovation.”
