Appointments to Tallaght Hospital Board

On the nomination of the President of the hospital, Health Minister, Stephen Donnelly has appointed Tom Lane and Reverend David Bowles as  members of the Tallaght Hospital Board.

Tom Lane was educated in Clongowes Wood College and University College Dublin  He graduated with a BCL degree in 1984.

He spent his early working career with the Irish operations of Jefferson Smurfit Group. After a couple of years on their graduate programme, he was appointed Chief Executive of Executive Travel Ltd. In subsequent years, he ran other Smurfit subsidiaries including Irish Paper Sacks and Killeen Corrugated Products.

Tom Lane joined NASDAQ quoted Advanced Materials Inc. to set up their Irish subsidiary in 1998. Five years later, he led a management buyout of the Irish company and the buyout vehicle, Adelante Manufacturing Ltd, invested in a small number of companies in Ireland and Singapore involved in technical foam conversion, recruitment, print & packaging and wet room installation.

A keen sports fan, he is a Past President of the Clongowes Union and led significant fund raising efforts for St Francis Hospice and Peter McVerry Trust in recent years.

Reverend David Bowles is currently rector of Whitechurch Parish, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16.  It is a Church of Ireland parish of roughly 1,000 people. He has a Master’s degree in theology from Trinity College and The Church of Ireland Theological Institute. He is also currently a Chaplain to The Church of Ireland Theological Institute. Previous to ordination, he worked in finance in a semi-state body and also in the Advertising Industry. He has extensive experience of corporate governance, having been on the board of directors of various companies. He also trained and worked as a Hotel Manager.

Currently, Reverend Bowles is the Chairperson of Whitechurch National School Board of Management, Rathfarnham, a member of Church of Ireland General Synod and is on the Dublin & Glendalough Diocesan Board of Education Executive and Finance Committee.

He is an accredited Healthcare Chaplain. In his previous role, between 2019 and 2022, He was half time Priest in Charge of Moviddy Union of Parishes, Cork and Healthcare Chaplain to Cork University Hospital and Bon Secours Hospital in Cork. Currently, he is one of the out of hours on-call Chaplains to Tallaght University Hospital and St Vincent’s University Hospital.
