The Government has provided a total of €960m extra for the health services to meet the costs of increased demand, particularly in acute hospitals, this year.
It is part of an additional €1 billion provided for the health services in a supplementary budget for 2023. It brings the final gross allocation to health to about €22.4 billion in 2023.
The supplementary allocation is considerably less than the additional €1.4 billion to €1.5 billion Bernard Gloster, Chief Executive, HSE, said would be needed for services in 2023.
