On the national stage, our health services have remained in the eye of the storm, thus ensuring the constant need for inspiring leaders and professional managers, HMI President, Mr. Derek Greene said when he officially opened the 2014 HMI National Conference.
“Leading Healthcare” was the theme for this year’s conference which was attended by approximately 300 health managers and policy makers in the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Dublin.
Mr. Greene said leadership and management were complementary, a question of ‘doing things right’ and ‘doing the right thing’. The transformation agenda was already in motion. Our health service needed breakthrough strategies, robust systems and programmes. It also needed the vision of leaders who, in asking ‘where to from here?’ would align the perceptions and behaviours of all stakeholders in the services we provided.
“In recognition of the contribution made by so many leaders and teams in the health services, this year we will present our inaugural HMI Leaders Award. This award celebrates the commitment of those who have persevered with change and have demonstrated how things can be done differently and so have enhanced our services and the care we give to our service users. We are delighted that Minister for Health, Dr. Leo Varadkar T.D. will attend the award ceremony following the conference,” said the President.
