The Children’s University Hospital, Temple Street, Dublin has been recognised for a sixth year as one of the ‘Best Large Workplaces in Ireland,’ according to a comprehensive study by the Great Place to Work Institute Ireland.
Highlighting a strong sense of camaraderie and fulfillment among its staff, the CUH is once again the only hospital to be named as one of the country’s best places to work.
Mona Baker, acting CEO at the hospital, says: “Having a strong organisational culture and creating a great workplace is even more relevant today because of the challenges we face in the economic downturn.
“Staff are being asked to do more with fewer resources and could easily become demoralised with continued pay cuts. Employees who feel they work in a great workplace are more productive. In particular, staff that are engaged and have a sense of pride in their work will go the extra mile.”
The hospital excelled in demonstrating the pride and solidarity of its staff which, it has proven, results in the best possible patient care for the children and families it serves. Temple Street rated higher than companies of a similar size in this vital area.

“Recognition such as this could not be achieved without the dedication and support of our amazing staff who work tirelessly to ensure that the best possible patient care is delivered to the children we serve,” said Ms. Baker.
She said that despite being rated as one of Ireland’s best workplaces yet again, like many other employers, the hospital is facing difficult and challenging times, “The main challenge is resourcing which makes maintaining staff morale and pride more difficult in the current environment.”
The Children’s University Hospital, Temple Street is a charitable, not-for-profit organisation delivering high quality patient care to children and their families. It was
established in 1872 and is a national facility that provides paediatric care to children from all over Ireland. Each year, over 123,000 sick children are cared for in Temple Street. One third of inpatients come from outside Dublin. The Accident and Emergency Department caters for almost 50,000 children annually, making it one of the busiest A&E facilities in Europe.
