The NRH has been celebrating all things rehabilitation from November into December this year, writes Dr. Amanda Carty, Deputy CEO/Director of Operations, National Rehabilitation Hospital, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin.
The NRH hosted its’s 12th Annual Sports Championships from 24th to 27th November and continued with a rehabilitation festival which commenced with the annual celebration of Accessibility Day on Wednesday 3rd December. This year’s theme is “Connect- strengthening connections with our community partners to enhance opportunities for interaction”.
On Thursday 4th December, NRH hosted the European event for the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), the international accrediting body for rehabilitation providers, and looks forward to welcoming counterparts from across Europe to the NRH.
This will be followed by the annual Ernest Goulding Memorial lecture arranged by our Research and Ethics Committee. This years lecture is titled “From Patienthood to Personhood: A Complex Journey Home” presented by Mr Brian Dunne, President and CEO of PHSS Support Services, Ontario, Canada.
On Friday 5th December the national rehabilitation conference took place in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire entitled “Specialist Rehabilitation Services for Ireland: Connect- Reflect-Impact” where we looked forward to welcoming international and national speakers. We had an opportunity to connect with our peers working in rehabilitation. This learning will enable us all to reflect and learn from presentations, discussions and poster contributions from professionals around the country, paving the way for us to continue working together creating integrated pathways to support rehabilitation care.
To round off the week we hosted a knowledge to practice session in the NRH on Saturday 6th December where healthcare professionals toured the NRH facilities, connected around best practice and developments and innovations to support patients throughout their rehabilitation journey.
