Leading and Managing Health and Social Care in an era defined by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA), will be the topic of the 2025 HMI Annual Conference to be held on October 22.

The Conference will bring together thought leaders, innovators and practitioners to explore how we can lead with confidence, embrace digital transformation, and deliver high-quality care in an ever-evolving landscape.

HMI President, Breda Crehan Roche, said the conference was aimed at examining leadership challenges and opportunities in VUCA environments, exploring technological innovations shaping health and social care, sharing best practices in adaptive leadership and digital transformation and promoting cross sector collaboration for improved care outcomes.
The Conference will be officially opened by HMI President, Breda Crehan-Roche and other speakers include Adam Harris, CEO ASIAM, Kinsley Aikins, The Networking Institute, Damian McCallion HSE Deputy CEO, Dr Claudine Kearney, RCSI Graduate School of HealthCare Management and HMI Council Members, Tony Canavan, Mellany McLoone and June Stanley.






They will explore the critical importance of effective leadership in health and social care and the need to embrace technology and innovation in this new world.
The Conference is aimed at health and social care leaders, managers and team leaders, clinicians, policy-makers, IT and innovation professionals, academics and researchers, aspiring leaders and frontline staff.
The 2025 HMI Annual Conference will be held in the RDS, Dublin on Wednesday, October 22 from 8.15 a.m. to 4.15 p.m. A HMI sponsored shuttle bus will run from Heuston Station to the RDS and will return after the conference.

The keynote address will be given by Limerick born, Michael J. Dowling, Former President, CEO and now CEO Emeritus of Northwell Health. New York’s largest non-for-profit health care provider and private employer.
A native of Knockaderry, Co. Limerick, and a graduate of UCC, Mr. Dowling has served as Northwell’s first president and Chief Executive Officer for more than 23 years. Under his leadership, Northwell became New York State’s first integrated health system in 1992 and now includes 28 hospitals across New York and Connecticut, employing 104,000 individuals, with over 14,000 affiliated physicians, 1,000 care locations, and a comprehensive network of home care, rehabilitation, and end-of-life services.
Additionally, Mr. Dowling has taken a leadership role in addressing gun violence, the leading cause of death among children in the United States, recognizing it as a critical health care issue. He has mobilized over 60 health care CEOs nationwide to support gun violence prevention. For 18 consecutive years, he has been named to Modern Healthcare magazine’s list of the “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare,” achieving the magazine’s #1 ranking in 2022.
