The Mater Private Network electrophysiology team, led by Professor Gabor Szeplaki, Head of Electrophysiology, has successfully performed Ireland’s first atrial fibrillation procedures using Abbott’s Volt™ Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) System, an innovative approach to treating AFib.

A spokesperson for the Mater Private Network said this technology enabled ablation procedures to be completed in less time and with significantly lower risk of causing damage to surrounding tissues compared to thermal ablation.

“At Mater Private Network’s Heart & Vascular Centre, we continue advancing patient care through next-generation therapies. Patients now benefit from shorter, safer procedures and faster recovery, underscoring our dedication to clinical excellence and innovation in cardiology.

“The Electrophysiology team at Mater Private Network is at the forefront of bringing innovative therapies to our cardiology patients, and we are excited to be first centre in Ireland, UK and the Nordic region to offer this novel PFA solution from Abbott for patients with atrial fibrillation,” said Professor Gábor Széplaki.
