The HSE South Dublin surgical hub operated by St. James’s Hospital, which provides day case surgery for patients from south county Dublin and surrounding counties, has resulted in some speciality waiting lists bring dramatically reduced, according to HSE Deputy CEO, Damian McCallion.

He said there was a great feedback from patients, with negligible number of patients not attending (DNA) and a great comments board with patient feedback visible.

“It is operating to lean principles with lots of innovations evident. There is a full electronic health record in the hub with minimal paper and it is- operating to our national Scan4Safety standards so efficient and safer (GS1 Ireland).” He said.

“It is  enabling more complex work to be undertaken in the main St James hospital site and there is a  great patient flow through the building.

“There is a lot of learning to be taken to our next surgical hubs in Galway and north Dublin.
